[1] Night Song at Amalfi

[2] Wood Song

[3] April Song

Love Songs for Piano and Voice

Three settings of poems from Sara Teasdale’s 1917 collection ‘Love Songs’, written during my final year at university in April to June 2019.

‘Night Song at Amalfi’ has a melancholic and yearning tone, reflected in the long lines of the piano part. The voice in ‘Wood Song’ mimics the wide ranging melodies of a wood thrush. And the soft tone and harmonic ostinato in ‘April Song’ can be compared with the themes of wistful longing in the poem, with both culminating in a hopeful and open-ended resolution.
